Number 27 You may have noticed that the Dalmatian often appears in my work.

The Dalmatian represents me: A White South African - influenced by a variety of black cultures = black spots.

In this particular artwork, I question the differences between abstract art and contemporary art.

Both paintings, in this painting are of the same subjects matter ,i.e. the water ways of Amsterdam.

The one on the right was done in plein-air and Number 27, the abstract piece, was done solely inside the studio without the experience.

As you can see nr.27 has gone a whole lot further with the main subject matter, ...water, or has it just missed the point ?

Every painting is a new experience and so different from the previous. I have been painting portraits for over 25 years, and I still find each and everyone has a new set of challenges, decisions and it’s very own colour palette.

My favorite part of this category is the search and find aspect of a successful artwork.

In this category it is about breaking the rules. Also the experimental use of symbols and textured surfaces.

This is were I create an art to capture the essence of the painting technique and not the subject.

Colour choice, a variety of textures in one piece, simple compositions, the use of diptych and triptych works are one of the ingredients to my success.
