	On my very first visit, I was awe struck by this beautiful old building from the 1920`s . Her sheer size and presence overwhelms you as you approach. Her interior boasts an intricate balance of art nouveaux. Luthman has even left his own signature, intentionally hidden in a labyrinth beneath your feet. Here lies the confirmation of his own words...” niets kan perfect zijn .“ ( nothing can be perfect.)

	Should you wish for more than a peaceful and relaxing experience, there are many other organized activities in the very core of the park. For both young and old, there are sporting adventures, recreational, educational and cultural activities too. The driveway or entrance to Radio Kootwijk consists of 7.5 kilometers of forest which ends in this, our small town of 34 houses, boasting a population of about 109 residents. There is another 75 kilometers of forest stretching South, from our back yard. Tourists from all over the world come here to visit the architectural heritage of the infamous transmitter building. Designed by the Dutch Architect Luthman, and built in 1920.


		Gebouw A, also known as *De Cathedraal* Monumentendag arrives in early autumn. The little town of Radio Kootwijk is alive with visitors from all over the Netherlands. My reference. ”The Sphinx of the Netherlands.”



		Monumentendag 2006

	Once a year visitors have permission to enter Gebouw A, which is the old transmitter building- built for long wave communication to Indonesia. Below you can see the North-facing view, in the direction of our house, over the top of the Forest Reserve.




		Every year the residents and committee members of the town’s council, make the visitors feel right at home with a cup of tea, juice and a bite to eat. From the left: Ruud, Grietje, Ariane and Robert. Below: Inside Gebouw A

Aan het einde van de Radioweg staat dit symmetrische gewapend betonnen gebouw. Op het terrein zijn verder een (koel)vijver en 2 entreegebouwen aanwezig. De betonnen watertoren in het dorp Radio-Kootwijk is ook ontworpen door Architect dhr. J.M.Luthmann.

Het gebouw heeft een 48 meter hoge zendtoren met er achter de machinehal. De vormgeving van het gebouw lijkt beïnvloed door de Duitse expressionisten en de Amsterdamse School. Beeldhouwer H.A. van den Eijnde ontwierp de decoraties op dit rijksmonument.

Dit "Gebouw A" was in 2002 het decor voor de film MindHunters met in de hoofdrollen L.L. Cool J en Kate Winslet.

In 2007 is Gebouw A decor voor opnamens van verfilming van het boek van Marion Bloem, Ver van familie. Met in de hoofdrollen Anneke Grönloh en Terence Schreurs. Grönloh en Schreurs zullen de hoofdrollen van grootmoeder en kleindochter vertolken in deze Indische speelfilm .
